Artist's Bio -

Ralph Waldo Emerson is understood to have coined the phrase "Life is a journey, not a destination."

Similarly in my mind, "art ought not to be thought about as a product, but rather a production."
Early in life art became an outlet for me to express myself, connect with subject matter or escape the everyday. Many works have commemorated milestone moments we remember forever, such as a weddings, holidays, pets, anniversaries and travel .

Where I grew up, Steveston, B.C. was a source of artistic inspiration. The beauty of nature existed all around in growing up in a coastal fishing community with the mountains of Vancouver Island in one direction and the North Shore in the other direction.

My growing passion to create art was fostered in and outside of the formal classroom setting. Private art lessons in elementary years proved fruitful. Classes were held at the Pheonix Art Workshop in Steveston.
This story would be incomplete without any mention that during my later elementary & early high school years I engaged heavily in playing Warhammer. In case you aren't aware & without trying to sound haughty, the game itself simply put involves building miniature armies. Armies that were purchased for a fairly unreasonable price. We took these boxed packs of plastic home and glued it all together before paining and playing one another with them. We'd gather friends around a table and spend an entire evening or weekend consumed by Warhammer. Despite the mystical draw, or maybe it was the financial drain of the hobby, I managed to grow from it but remained someone who is driven to spend my spare time painting.
Art creation became serious during Secondary School. Steveston High opened up artistic possibilities as the school was home to a kiln for pottery & sculpture creation. Also Mr. Miyazaki our Art teacher provided ample support, encouragement & tolerance.
As for chosen mediums, at first watercolour painting was a given. I was inspired by the fact it was the favoured medium of my late Great Uncle & former WWII pilot Red Harris. Watercolour is also a relatively cheap & clean medium. Over time mediums used have included watercolour, oil, & acrylic paint, as well as graphic design & video production.

Art themes painted thus far include landscapes & architecture from: Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the U.S.A. & the festival Burning Man.

Predominately art has been gifted, occasionally I've been asked if I could be commissioned to do paintings, and even more occasionally than that I've accepted. One contract acquired involved creating a back drop for an international festival in Muscat, Oman. Another commission involved painting a cover for a science fiction novel. Others were paintings and personalized gift cards asked for by friends and fans. At one point I sold art from the back of my car in Queensland Australia to fund travels.
Keep in mind not all of my pieces can be found online. Excluding certain works has been decided to promote attendance at future art exhibitions. After all what would be the point of attending if everything could be seen it online?
Art is not my career, it's my passion. As someone who is concerned for mother nature I've seen landscape art as a way to depict the fragility of the land we should always care for, but don't always get to see in the same way. You may not enjoy a lakeview, or any view. However, landscape art changes that, as the right landscape painting can give the similar impression of window with a view. Like how Shakespeare designed his theatres to defy the laws of social stratification, art allows visual experiences to transgress social structures. On that note, no matter who you are. I hope you enjoy this art site.
